COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Mrs Moulton and Mrs Holderness are involved with the Community Service, which includes

a group of current Grade 7 learners.

There are over 25 girls who are members of the Community Service group. The girls have

been involved in various activities: They made colourful posters on healthy habits and handed

them to Alpha primary for their cloakrooms. Stationery and furniture have been donated to

help refurbish 5 classrooms of Alpha Primary which were gutted in a fire! The girls learned how

to fabric paint and painted beautiful bags which were handed to SOS Children's Village.

The girls also visited EP Children's Home and organised an Easter Egg hunt in the garden of

one of the houses.

After assisting and supporting Alpha Primary School in Gelvandale for over 3 years, the

Community Service co-ordinators have decided to help another needy school. Sanctor

Primary School in Bethelsdorp has been selected. Mrs Holderness and Mrs Moulton met

with the deputy principal and a few teachers to find out where the girls could help.

With the support of our Collegiate families and teachers, Community Service hopes to achieve

the following:

- Supply paint to paint the room allocated for a new library
- Supply books for the new library

- Make posters to advertise the book collection
- Hold a workshop for Collegiate moms to show the Sanctor moms how to cover and stamp the

  new books
- Supply plastic, scissors and sticky tape for this workshop
- Hold two workshops for the teachers in teaching Literacy and Numeracy
- Visit the school

The Community Service girls have also made popcorn and decorated biscuits, which they

took to the EP Children’s Home, when they paid them a visit. The girls keep journals for the

year and diarise each meeting’s activities.
